Leroy Joseph Laporte Sr.
Leroy Joseph Laporte, Sr. passed away Sunday February 12, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. at the age of 83. He was surrounded by family members at Tulane Stroke ICU, after failing to recover from a stroke. Leroy was born in New Orleans January 27, 1934 to Bernard Joseph Laporte and Catherine "Kate" Laporte. He was a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather. He was preceded in death by his beautiful daughter, Lisa Laporte. He leaves his wife of 55 years Eleanor "Nell" Laporte; his sister, Marilyn Lowe; his son, Leroy Laporte Jr. and his wife, Bridgett Laporte; his son, Jeffrey Laporte and his wife Jacqueline Laporte; his niece, Debbie Landry; his nephew, Stanley Lowe; 15 grandchildren, Christie, Nicholas, Matthew, Jonathon, Tiffany, Bradley, Sara, Destiny, Ronald, Michal, Jeffrey Jr., Nicky, Lauren, Anthony, and Addisyn; and 12 great grandchildren, Beckett, Warner, Leah, Wyatt, David, Easton, Adeline, William, Stephen, Haleigh, Amelia, Lennon, and Sammy. Leroy graduated from East Jefferson High School in 1952 where he excelled in football as a linebacker. He later went on to take over the family plumbing company, Laporte Plumbing and Heating Inc., until he retired. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Moose Lodge. He enjoyed fishing and golf. He faithfully served the Lord Jesus Christ and attended mass daily with his wife. He was a very loving father and Paw-Paw, who rarely missed a grandchild, or great grandchild's birthday or special event. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 16, 2017 with Friends viewing at 9:00 a.m., Mass at 11:00 a.m., and Friend and Family gathering at 12:00 p.m. at the reception hall. All will be held at the same facility: Greenwood Funeral Home 5200 Canal Blvd. New Orleans, LA 70124. Burial at Greenwood Cemetery.
