LeRoy Harner
LeRoy S. Harner April 26, 1926 - January 9, 2017 Bonneauville LeRoy S. Harner, 90, entered God's Eternal care, Monday, January 9, 2017, at home with his loving family by his side. Born April 26, 1926 in Mt. Pleasant Township, PA, he was the son of the late William M. and Annie C. (Harner) Harner. LeRoy was the loving husband of Velma J. Harner, who died August 5, 2009 and with whom he shared sixty-two years of marriage. LeRoy was a 1947 graduate of Littlestown High School. He then went to serve his country proudly as a member of the United States Navy during WWII, earning a Pacific Theater Ribbon, an American Theater Ribbon and a Victory Medal. LeRoy was a longtime member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Littlestown. He was a member of La Société des 40 Hommes et 8 Chavaux Local Chapter 731, a life-member of VFW Post 6954 of Littlestown, PA, a life-member of the New Oxford Social and Athletic Club, and a life-member of the American Legion Post 14 of Hanover. LeRoy retired in 1986 as a self-employed carpenter for over forty-three years. LeRoy enjoyed watching NASCAR and especially loved the New York Yankees. LeRoy is survived by a son, Keith Harner and wife, Sandra of York; and a daughter, Sandra Staub and husband, Alan of Littlestown; a daughter-in-law, Carole Harner of Gettysburg; five grandchildren, Greg Harner, Doug Harner, Karen Heath, Brandon Staub, and Jordan Staub; seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Dawson Harner; a sister, Virginia Sentz; and a brother, Earl Harner. A service to celebrate and remember LeRoy's life will be held 11 a.m., Friday, January 13, 2017 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 330 Whitehall Road, Littlestown, with Sister Deborah McClellan Associate in Ministry officiating. The Adams County Honor Guard will provide Military Honors. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, January 12, 2017 at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 66 E. Hanover St., Gettysburg (Bonneauville) and from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday, January 13, 2017 at St. Luke Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions in LeRoy's memory may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church, 330 Whitehall Road, Littlestown, PA 17340.
