LeRoy E. Durrance
Mr. LeRoy E. Durrance, age 81, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017 in his residence. Mr. Durrance was born in Watertown, FL and was raised in Lake City, FL where he attended local schools. He joined the U.S. Navy, where he worked as a cook, retiring after 20 years of service. During his time in the Navy, he and his family moved and traveled extensively across the United States. After his retirement from the Navy, LeRoy worked many years with Webb Pharmacies, helping set-up new stores, and worked with the Florida Department of Transportation. In 1983, LeRoy's love for the water called him to join the Merchant Marines, where he worked until his retirement in 1997. While with the Merchant Marines, he also worked with Gulf Port Transit and became a member of the Seafarers International Union. In 2005, he and his wife, Virginia retired to Eldora. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Cleo Durrance; brothers, Owen Durrance and Lewis Durrance and his sisters, Edna Vinning and Evelyn Way. Mr. Durrance is survived by his wife of 59 years, Virginia Durrance of Ellabell; two children, Becky Morris and her husband, Alex of Guyton and Frank Durrance and his wife, Shellie of Powder Springs; five granddaughters, Rachel Gordon and her husband, William; Amanda Neidlinger and her husband, James; Jessica Pittman and her husband, Jeffery; Kimberly Bell and her husband, Chris; and Whitney Durrance; grandson, Luke Morris; 12 great-grandchildren; six sisters, Cassie Bowles; Foy Andrus and her husband, Rulon; Adell Jacobs; Algie St. John and her husband, Hoke; Jean McRae and her husband, Ted; and Brenda Lovett and her husband, Harry; two brothers, Vernon Durrance and his wife, Janelle and Joe Durrance and his wife, Connie; sister-in-law, Jenean McMullen and her husband, Rufus; brother-in-law, Ronnie Myer and many nieces and nephews. A gathering of family and friends will be held 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, January 10, 2017 in Hodges-Moore Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 11, 2017 in the chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Glennville. Pallbearers will be William Gordon, James Neidlinger, Jeffery Pittman, Chris Bell and Rufus McMullen.
