Leopold Czajkowski Gunnison, CO - Lee passed away January 9, 2018 in Gunnison Colorado after a valiant battle with cancer at age 67. Lee, the beloved son of Roman and Aniela (Jakielaszek) was born in London UK and spent his early life in Elmira, graduating from EFA in 1968. He then headed west to attend Stanford University where he fell in love with the mountains, rivers, and culture of the American West. Lee settled in Crested Butte, Colorado where he pursued his passion for architecture, skiing, and fishing. Like his Polish ancestors, Lee was an excellent carpenter and he designed and built innovative homes and buildings. He fished throughout the country and had his biggest success landing a mammoth tarpon while fishing from a kayak in the Florida Keys. More than anything Lee loved skiing and was an accomplished back country skier. He was an iconoclast who lived life to the fullest. He was a friend to all, and will be greatly missed. Lee is survived by his loving spouse Gwen Pettit, sister Helen with husband Jim Mullen and extended members of the Pettit, Mullen, Dean, Czajkowski, Grzesik, Jakielaszek, Uscinowicz, Ostrowski and Sardo families. At Lee's request, his body will be bestowed for medical research. Donations may be made to Living Journeys and Gunnison Valley Health Foundation or a charity of one's choice.
