Leonard A. Grove York Leonard A. Grove, 89, died at Pleasant Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Tuesday, January 10, 2017. He was the husband of Louise (Price) Grove. The couple would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on January 27, 2017. Born August 20, 1927 in York, he was the son of the late Wayne P. and Hanna (McCleary) Grove. Leonard was preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth, Dale, Herbert and Carl Grove and sisters, Anita Grove and Louise Allewelt. Leonard graduated from William Penn Senior High School in 1945. During his high school years, he was very active in sports and was the first bat boy of The York White Roses. He spent two years with the White Roses and always said they were among the best years of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II spending over a year in the Philippines before being discharged in 1947 at Camp Stoneman, California. Leonard worked in the engineering department at Met-Ed for 41 years before retiring in 1989. He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America with Troop 18 of Zion United Church of Christ as a Cub Scout Master, Explorer Post Commander and a team leader to Philmont National Scout Ranch. He was a life member of the Viking AA, played many years of softball in the York area and umpired for many more. Leonard is survived by sons, Jeffrey L Grove and wife Kathleen of York, Douglas E and wife Linda Grove of Hanover; and daughter, Pamela J (Grove) Throne and husband Jeffrey of Dover. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Fay Grove and Lois Grove; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Cory Grove and wife Heather of Elizabethtown, Matthew Grove of Shillington, Allison Grove of Raleigh, N.C., Jennifer Koons and husband Jason of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Jason Mangold of Chesapeake, Va., and Jessica Sage of York. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 11 a.m., at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 1111 E. Market St., York. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Leonard was a lifelong member of Zion United Church of Christ and the family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Zion United Church of Christ, 100 Lafayette St., York, PA 17403. etzweilerfuneralhome.com
