Lena Lavon (Hamman) Cothran went to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 15, 2017 in Colbert, Oklahoma, at the age of 90. She was born October 2, 1926 in Nashoba, Oklahoma. Lavon was the third child and first daughter of Harry V. Hamman and Dolpha "Dot" (Lovitt) Hamman. Lavon helped her parents around the home, taking care of her younger siblings and attended school, graduating from Clayton High School. After graduation, Lavon attended Southeastern Teacher's College, received a teaching certificate and taught school for one year at Divide, Oklahoma. Lavon married Tom Bradley Cothran on May 24, 1946 in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and they made their home in Nashoba. In Nashoba they owned and operated Cothran's Store until they retired in 1980, moving to Arizona. She was a member of Christ's Church in Nashoba and later the Church of Christ in Colbert, Oklahoma. She resided in Colbert for almost thirty-three years. Lavon was a great daughter, wife, sister, mother, grandma, Bidie, granny, and aunt. But most of all she was a faithful Christian. Sweet, kind, and very independent, she loved to cook, sew, and grow her own flowers, and loved children. Lavon is preceded in death by her husband, Brad; son Lee M. Cothran; parents Harry and Dolpha Hamman; sister Johnnie Wyrick; brothers Virgil, Harvey, Harry, and Jerry. She leaves behind a loving family that includes her children Mary Jo Thompson and husband Gerald of Colbert, Tom Cothran and wife Anita of McKinney, Texas; brothers Jim Ray Hamman and Don Hamman; grandchildren Pat and Joan Thompson of Kansas City, Kansas, Wade and Jeab Thompson of Fort Worth, Texas, Lee Bradley Cothran of Dallas, Texas, Kelli Cothran of McKinney, Texas; great-grandchildren Grayson, Aden, Ivan, and Emerson Thompson, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Pallbearers will include Lee Bradley Cothran, Patrick Thompson, Carl Wade Thompson, Larry Hamman, Audie Hamman, Joe Hamman, Ronnie Hamman, Monty Hamman, Danny Hamman, and Michael Hamman. Honorary pallbearers will include Kelli Cothran, Grayson Thompson, Aden Thompson, Ivan Thompson, and Emerson Thompson. Services will be held Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Burkhart Funeral Service of Antlers with Conley Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Tigertown Cemetery in Tigertown, Texas, under the direction of Burkhart Funeral Service of Antlers. Family visitation will be Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Burkhart Funeral Service in Antlers, Oklahoma. The Family ask that in lieu of flower donations be made to the St. Jude's Research Hospital.
