Lehma Berry Gibson Lehma Berry Gibson, a 10-year resident of Canyon, Texas, died Saturday, April 15, 2017. Lehma and her husband, Edward, moved to Texas after 80 years in Port Norris, N.J., where she and her husband Edward owned and operated the family salt hay business, Berrytown Farm. Not only did Lehma and Edward carry on the five generation farming business, she also owned and operated a beauty salon and ceramics shop. During World War II, Lehma was involved with the USO covering the military bases in New Jersey. Traveling to the bases, she shared the stage with Bill Haley, Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, and many other well-known entertainers that were entertaining the troops. During this time she also had weekly air time on a South Jersey radio station where she sang and played her accordion. Mostly singing country western music, she was an accomplished yodeler, and she always ended her air time with the song Beautiful Texas. Lehma was very involved in Port Norris annual parades, and she chaired the Centennial celebration. She was also very active in VFW #5339, where she held many official positions including President of the VFW Lady's Auxiliary, 9th District in Southern New Jersey. She was very involved with the local churches, singing for weddings, and other official celebrations. While a member of the First United Methodist Church in Port Norris, she was choir director for the children's choir, and she later became director of the adult choir. Lehma was married to Edward Gibson for almost 70 years. She was a beautiful person who was loved deeply by her husband, daughter and her husband, her two grandchildren and their spouses, and her five great grandchildren.
