Lawrence F. Lowery
Lawrence F. Lowery June 26, 1932 - December 15, 2016 Danville University of California Professor Emeritus Lawrence F. Lowery passed away on December 15 at the age of 84, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Larry was born in Oakland, graduated from Oakland Technical High School in 1950, and the University of California at Berkeley in 1954 with a BA in Journalism. He served the next two years with the US Army in Alaska, a tour of duty preceded by marriage to the love of his life, Carol Smith, who he met while at Cal. He attended San Francisco State to obtain a teaching credential, worked as a teacher, fathered two daughters and enrolled in the UC Graduate School of Education in pursuit of a Doctorate, which was granted in 1964. He stayed on at UC as a Professor and became a widely published authority on math and science education for children. Larry was preceded in death by his daughter Alison and wife Carol. He is survived by his daughter Diane, son-in-law Mike Chalkley, grandson Spenser and brothers Ken and Mike Kropf.
