Gorin, Lawrence David 71 May 02, 1945 Oct. 14, 2016 Lawrence "Larry" Gorin passed away quickly and peacefully on Oct. 14, 2016. We think his arrival at the pearly gates will go something like this: "Knock, knock." "Who's there?" "Heaven!" "Heaven who??" "Heaven knows it's Larry Gorin!!" That was our beloved Zaide, lover of corny jokes and bad puns. He was born on May 2, 1945 in Chicago. He grew up in L.A. and graduated from Cal State Univ. in 1966. He married Carolyn Barde in 1967, who wisely brought them back to Portland, where he graduated from Lewis and Clark School of Law in 1973 while raising his two young children Aaron and Heather Gorin. We are very reassured to know that upon Zaide's arrival in heaven, God will be fully informed on Oregon family law, as he was not only the author and lecturer on "Paternity Law," chapter 16 in "Oregon Family Law" (published by Oregon State Bar, 2008), but nicknamed "the Professor" for his extensive knowledge and instruction on the subject by his many admiring colleagues in the legal community, and the recipient of the 2010 "Professionalism Award" from the Oregon Academy of Family Law Practitioners. But not only is he to be admired for his legal career, but also for his cherished family life. There is a saying "that the best thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother" and boy did he love his wife Carolyn. Married for nearly 50 years, that love extended to his children Aaron and Heather, his daughter-in-law Vanessa Bogaert, his grandchildren Leo and Max Gorin and Jackson and Tahlia Friedman, his brother Howard Gorin and his wife Sharon, and to his many adoring family and friends. His grandchildren delighted in his jelly bean gifts and in being the test audience for his latest comedic routine. We'd like to say that Jay Leno got his best material from Zaide, but in reality it was the reverse, though in all fairness he always gave Leno credit. Our sweet Larry will always be loved and missed. He was our angel here on earth and now he joins our other angels up in heaven. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2016 at Ahavai Sholom Cemetery. For those wishing to send the family a remembrance, please consider a contribution to Cedars-Sinai Park or voting for Hillary Clinton.
