Laurence P. Keenan
DOVER - Laurence P. Keenan, 92, formerly of Lisa Beth Circle, died Thursday, March 9, 2017, at St. Ann Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Born in Dover November 13, 1924, the son of James and Elizabeth (McManus) Keenan, he was a graduate of Dover High School, University of Notre Dame, University of Mexico, and studied at the Sorbonne University in France. He was a US Navy Veteran of World War II. In 1951 he began his career in government service, which took him to Paris, where he was Deputy Legal Attaché in the FBI office. Returning to FBI headquarters in 1963, the family resided in Rockville, Md., until 1967. He joined the State Department in 1967 as a Foreign Assistance Inspector with diplomatic status with USAID of the State Department, on assignments in Pakistan, India, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. Larry retired to Dover where he was a real estate appraiser and developer. He served as Dover city manager for several months in 1975-76 and later chaired the Strafford County Republican Party in the run-up to the 1980 election. Larry was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Dover Rotary, Dover Elks, the National Association of Realtors, and the Society of Real Estate Appraisers. The widower of Lois Anne (Kyser) Keenan who died in 2013, he is survived by three sons David Laurence Keenan of Watsonville, Calif.; Michael Joseph Keenan of Saginaw, Mich.; and Jon Paul Keenan of New London, N.H.; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. He leaves a brother William Keenan of Kingston, R.I., and a sister Kathleen Delesky of Rochester, N.Y. SERVICES: There are no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., on March 25, 2017, in the chapel at St. Ann Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, 195 Dover Point Rd., Dover.
