Laura M. Stewart, 94, lifelong resident of the McCune area, died at 6 a.m., Monday, October 17, 2016 at the Parsons Presbyterian Manor. She was born January 6, 1922, at rural McCune, to William and Mazel (Cherry) McWilliams. She graduated from the McCune Rural High School in 1940. On October 8, 1941 she and Stanley L. Stewart were married at rural McCune. He preceded her in death on June 8, 1994. Mrs. Stewart was employed as a cook at the McCune schools from 1955 to 1970. She attended the Church of the Nazarene in McCune and in past years was active in the Good Sams Camping Club. She loved to garden was particularly interested in the eight pecan trees in her yard that had been grafted by her husband. She was known for the wonderful cinnamon rolls that she made and shared with family and friends. She is survived by a son, Jay Stewart and wife Kathy, of McCune; a daughter, Evelina Wright, of Erie; six grandsons, Darrin Stewart and wife Sharon, of McCune, Gavin Stewart and wife Tara, of McCune, Seth Stewart and wife Kim, of Scammon, Ryan Stewart and wife Delina, of Frontenac, Scott Wright and wife Shelly, of Lee's Summit, MO and Steve Wright and wife Becky, of Olathe; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Emery McWilliams, of Girard. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 21 st , at the McCune Cemetery Patio, with Kelly Klubek officiating. Burial will follow in the cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Smith-Carson- Wall Funeral Home in Girard from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday.
