In memory of
Laura Fisher
Laura Travis Fisher, 51, died suddenly October 11th as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Hampton, GA. Born in Troy, January 27, 1965, she was the daughter of the late George "Sam" Travis and A. Nancy Travis Lupo (Nick Lupo). A 1983 Mechanicville High School graduate, Laura attended Hudson Valley Community College and then Siena College where she earned her bachelor's degree in Business Administration. She later attended SUNY Albany and received her Master of Science in Library/Information Science. Laura recently moved to Hampton and was working as the assistant branch manager for the Cochran Public Library in Stockbridge, GA, which was part of the Henry County Library System. Before moving to Georgia, Laura most recently was the Director of the Mechanicville Public Library and prior to that, for the Stillwater Free Library. The library was a huge part of her life. Through it, she provided outreach for story time to local nursery schools and the community center. She also was able to attain grant funding for Mechanicville's Concerts in Tallmadge Park, actively participated in the annual Duck Derby and frequently participated in community events as a representative for the library. Her many memberships included Director's Council in the Southern Adirondack Library System, Public Access Computers Committee, Overdrive Committee, Innovative Committee, NYLA, ALA, American Assoc. of Notaries, Mech. Stillwater Chamber of Commerce, 100 Year Anniversary Committee for the City of Mechanicville and also as liaison for Girl Scout Troop 1415, earning the Silver award, among many other things. Although her community spirit soared, she was still able to enjoy her family to the fullest extent. Whether it was following her sons' accomplishments at their Tae Kwon Do tournaments or traveling near and far to stay close with her large family, Laura always made sure that her family came first. She was a natural caregiver who took pride in making sure her family had all it needed. Survivors include her beloved sons, Joshua R. Fisher (Danielle Tremblay) of Ballston Lake and David A. Fisher of Ballston Spa; step-children, Devin and Tess Fisher of Lansingburgh (Bruce Fisher); siblings, Eric Travis, Claudia(John) Mazula, Audrey (Harry) Vannucci and Melissa Wolf, all of Mechanicville, NY, Cynthia (Jerry) Petronis, of Stillwater, NY, Celeste (Jim) Culora, of Hampton, GA, Joel (Suki) Travis, of Cohoes, NY, Jon Lupo of Rochester and Jamie (Michael) Petta of Mechanicville; along with many nieces and nephews.
