Larry HARMON SR.
Mr. Larry Lee Harmon Sr. of El Paso, TX passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the age of 79 after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Larry was born to parents Lee Ray and Margaret Harmon on November 29, 1937 in Enid, Oklahoma. He grew up as the eldest of five and attended Enid High School. Larry came to El Paso in 1965 and earned his BA in English with a minor in Spanish before working as a journalist for the El Paso Times for many years. Larry was a lifelong learner and constantly pursued a wide variety of interests and had a long career in education, earning his masters in linguistics in 1994. Larry was a high school teacher, university professor, and true Renaissance man. He believed that you should live your life as if you were to die tomorrow but learn as if you were to live forever. He will be truly missed. Larry is survived by his wife Carolina, his son Larry Harmon Jr., his daughters Nohemi Matthews, Elizabeth Sparks, Alma Wieland, Sharon Plunk, and Linda Harmon Mendez; his brothers Steve Harmon, John Harmon, and Dennis Harmon; and numerous grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Sharon Brummett. The family will hold a private memorial service and is grateful for condolences and asks that in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Larry's memory to the American Cancer Society.
