In memory of
Of Spring Arbor, MI, died peacefully and painlessly at home on the evening of Monday, October 17, 2016. His loving family surrounded Larry's bed feeling pain at their loss but celebrating his promised eternal joy of his Savior whom he had worshiped faithfully. Larry, age 68, was born in Flint, Michigan, to Calvin and Dorothy Clanton, both deceased. He is survived by a brother Bruce of Flint and his nephew Justin (Sam) and niece April. On June 29, 1968, Larry married his college sweetheart, Connie Gallagher in Spring Arbor where they have lived for 48 years, they have two sons: Jason and Jeff (Becky) and two grandsons: Titus (4) and Isaac (2), all residents of Jackson. Those boys loved their Bumpa and his face wreathed in smiles when they visited. Other surviving family members by marriage are Patricia Short-Chapman and her husband Sidney Chapman and children Jay, Julie and Joe Steenhuysen; Kay and Darrell Dunckel and children Douglas and Diann. Clanton graduated from Spring Arbor University with a BA in Finance and from Eastern Michigan University with a MBA in finance. Using his education, he served as VP of Finance at Camshaft Machine and CEO of General Products. served on many civic and charity boards: Red Cross of Jackson and Hillsdale, Love Inc., Health Alliance, and the Spring Arbor Free Methodist Finance Board as well as many other volunteer acts of Christ-like service. Larry was an avid Wolverine fan, holding Michigan season tickets for 20 years. He also loved his summer vacation at Petoskey with his family, and wicked fast board rides on our lake for anyone brave enough to volunteer. A celebration of Larry's life will be held at the Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church on Friday, October 21, at 11:00 a.m. in the main Sanctuary. Interment will be at the Spring Arbor Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make donation to the Dunckel Scholarship given by the Spring Arbor FM Church to qualified seniors who attend the church or the Kay and Darrell Dunckel Women's Basketball Scholarship at Spring Arbor University. The family wishes to thank the friends and family who prayed and cooked and cleaned and just came along side us as we fought this battle. A special thank you to Great Lakes Caring for their competent and compassionate professional care, especially Jasmine and Arianne.
