Plainfield, Kim Kim Plainfield, 63, passed away unexpectedly on April 8, 2017 in his home in Tomkins Cove, NY. Kim was born in Berkeley, CA, the son of Sanford & Ruth Plainfield and brother of Mark Plainfield. Kim began his lifelong career as a musician and teacher as young as five years old when he announced that he wanted to learn to play the drums. Apart from his love for playing the drums, a close second was his love for teaching others about playing the drums. At 22, Kim moved to NYC where Kenwood Dennard introduced him to the Drummers Collective where and his pedagogical career took hold and he continued teaching for the rest of his life. Progressing to an Associate Professor at SUNY Purchase, Kim's teaching career culminated in his acceptance of a position as a Full Professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA in 2012. Apart from his renown drumming and teaching, Kim was also a beloved father, husband, friend, and mentor; known for his infectious humor and spirit, fearlessness, and sense of adventure. Kim is survived by his wife, Maureen Plainfield; two sons, Joel Plainfield and Sebastian Plainfield; brother, Mark Plainfield; nephews Fernando Plainfield, Samuel Plainfield, and Julian Plainfield; and his music.
