Kim C. Hung
Kim C. Hung 1926—2017 Kim C. Hung, 91, was born January 3, 1926, in the village of Canton China. He married Yuen B. Hung in Canton in 1946. After a few years of marriage, he moved to Youngstown, Ohio to seek better living conditions and job opportunities for his family. He worked for his aunt's family business for several years while also attending night school to learn the English language. After he earned his US citizenship, he immigrated his wife and son into the United States to join him in 1965. In 1968, Kim bought G-T laundry and dry cleaning business and moved his family to Rockford, Illinois. He also opened Phoenix restaurant in 1975, and was able to successfully operate the business for more than 20 years. Kim enjoyed gardening and traveling, especially back to China. He understood the importance of education, so he donated money to assist in the building of schools in his village for the benefit of the younger generation. After retirement, he lived at Crimson Pointe senior assisted living facility for several years before passing away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 8, 2017. Survivors include son, James (Fannie); grandsons, Alvan and Derrick; granddaughter, Jaime; sisters, Mei Chong (Fall Chong), Betty Gin (Stan Gin); many nieces and nephews. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 13th, and Saturday, January 14th, from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12:15 p.m. at the Dalcamo Funeral Home, 470 W. 26th Street, Chicago.
