Kent A. Goodchild
Kent Alan Goodchild, 68, of Springfield, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family at his side. Born in Springfield to his loving parents, Kent B. and Christine (Flechsig) Goodchild of Springfield, he was a longtime area resident and 1965 graduate of Classical High School. Kent went on to receive his Bachelors in Psychology from UMASS and then his Masters from Springfield College. He was employed with the Mass Rehabilitation Commission in Springfield for five years where he held the highest success rate for people going back into the workforce. He then became Director of Counseling for 26 years at Springfield Technical Community College. Kent was a strong believer in education and was instrumental in so many others furthering their own education. He was founder of the LGBT Alliance at STCC as well as founder of the Counseling Center which he started with a grant and then it blossomed from there. After his day job, Kent also spent time teaching night classes. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, and enjoyed many hobbies including, gardening, painting, music, photography, reading, writing and traveling with his family. In his retirement, he even wrote a novel which he hoped to publish. Besides his parents, Kent and Christine, he is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Kathleen (Wilson) Goodchild of Springfield, his three sons, Seth A. Goodchild and his wife Amy of Morton Grove, IL, Joshua W. Goodchild and his fiancée Kamila Burr of Middletown, CT and Evan B. Goodchild and his partner Dani Scott of Chesterfield, MA; three brothers, Marshall Goodchild and his partner Joan Zhe of Wilbraham, Matthew Goodchild and his wife Pauline of Springfield and Timothy Goodchild and his wife Susan of East Longmeadow; his sister, Christine Ingalls and her husband Keith of Wilbraham; “Gamp Kent” to his two precious grandchildren, Stella and Emmett Goodchild; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Anderson of South Windsor, CT, Patricia Walsh and her husband E. Dennis of Groton, CT and Donna Maello and her husband Frank of Ludlow; many dear nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins and by many special friends including The Wagner Family. He was predeceased by his grandparents, William and Winnebel Goodchild and Walter and Williamena Flechsig and by his dear friend, Jim Wagner. Family and friends are invited to meet for calling hours on Saturday October 15th from 4 – 7 PM at the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow. A funeral home ceremony will be held on Sunday October 16th at 11 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be private for the family at a later date.
