In memory of
Kenneth D. Stellon, age 71, died peacefully in hospice in Scottsdale, Arizona on September 23, 2016 of pancreatic cancer. He was born September 18, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois. Ken was a graduate of De La Salle Institute (high school), Chicago State Teacher's College (B.A.), Northeastern Illinois University (M.Ed), and Loyola University (Ed.D). Ken's first job in education was at De La Salle Institute, where he taught English. Later he taught at Sieden Prairie Elementary School in Matteson. Ken worked for many years as a middle school principal at Frankfort Junior High, James Hart School in Homewood, and Hadley Junior High in Glen Ellyn. Throughout his career, Ken made lifelong friends, whose company and good humor he treasured even into his final days. Ken was a devoted fan of the Chicago White Sox. As a child, growing up in the neighborhood, he would sneak into games with his brothers. For many years, he shared left field season tickets with relatives, and he raised his children in the Old Comiskey Park, making a baseball a family tradition that continues with his grandchildren. Ken was tearfully in attendance with his family on September 30, 1990 at the final game held in the Old Comiskey, and he was joyfully in attendance with his family and grandchildren at game two of the 2005 World Series. Happily, Ken could say within his lifetime that he never saw the Chicago Cubs win a World Series. Ken's family is grateful to the Hospice of the Valley for their support and gentle care, to the health professionals at Honor Health, Ironwood Cancer Center, and the Virginia Piper Cancer Research Center, and to all his family and friends who supported him the past twenty-two months. Ken was predeceased by his parents Clara Garcia Stellon and Edward Stellon. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Graham Stellon, his children Nicole Stellon O'Donnell (TJ O'Donnell) and Kenneth G. Stellon (Katie Triebel Stellon), his brothers Edward and Gary, five grandchildren: Nicholas, Jacob, Ashley, Cedar and Coral, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday October 22nd from 10:00 AM. to 11:00 AM followed by the memorial service at 11:00 A.M. at Yurs Funeral home, 405 E. Main Street, St. Charles, IL.
