Kenneth Monroe "Skinny Man" Hawes, 79, of Clarksdale, MS, passed away October 11, 2016, at Merit Health. He was born in Memphis, TN, on February 4, 1937. Visitation is Saturday October 15, 2016, 11:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. at Oakhurst Baptist Church in Clarksdale, MS. Funeral services are 12:00 P.M. Saturday at Oakhurst Baptist Church in Clarksdale, MS with burial in the Oakridge Cemetery. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, MS is handling the arrangements. Kenneth was a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church in Clarksdale, MS. He was a retired bookkeeper where he dedicated over 37 years to Delta Wholesale Hardware. He served in the National Guard. During high school, he was well known for his basketball skills where he was named All Big-8 and All-State. He received a basketball scholarship to Delta State University. He was a sports lover through and through and was one of the founding members of Youth, Inc. of Clarksdale. He was an avid outdoorsman mastering his deer and turkey hunting skills as well as being the master crappie fisherman. But most importantly, he leaves behind a long legacy of selfless love and devotion to his family and friends. All that knew him knew how dedicated he was to his three children and his family. He was the happiest when surrounded by his family. He is survived by his sons Curtis Monroe Hawes (Angie) of Clarksdale, MS and Kenneth Ray Hawes (Vermon) of Saltillo, MS; daughter Tracey Hawes Bailey (Todd) of Clarksdale, MS; sister Mary Willie Pitts Beard of Federal Way, WA; grandchildren Mary-Kristian Hawes and Madison Ray Hawes of Saltillo, MS, Kayce Joyce Hawes, Dalton Kenneth Hawes, Kalynn Duhon Marley (Tony Clay), Joshua Lloyd Duhon all of Clarksdale, MS and great granddaughter Anna Margaret Frances Marley of Clarksdale, MS. He is also survived by many close family members including five special cousins, known as the Hawes girls, who loved him like a brother. He is preceded in death by his parents Johnnie Willie Pitts and Mary Margaret Hawes and grandson Garland Chase Bailey. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital was very important to Kenneth as he lost his beloved grandson, Chase Bailey, in August 2015 to Osteosarcoma.
