Kay Marilyn (Yocom) LONG
LONG (nee Yocom), Kay Marilyn Age 74, of Monroe, Ohio died Tuesday, October 11, 2016 in Middletown, Ohio. Preceding her in death were her parents, David Clyde and Kathryn Elizabeth (nee Brinnon) Yocom. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Michael D. Long; sons, Michael T. (Jody) Long, and S. Matthew (Kristi) Long; daughter Elaine B. (Chuck) Kiraly; grandchildren, Tyler (Holly) Williams, Carley (Jason) Osterman, Hanna, Sadie and Madeline Long, and Drew, Adam and Brinnon Kiraly; two sisters, Nancy Lee (Phillip) Leinbach and Penny Jo (George) Regula; one brother, David C. (Candy) Yocom; several nieces, nephews and countless friends. Mrs. Long was a graduate of Middletown High School and The Ohio State University. She taught elementary school after graduation for a few years and then was a stay-at-home mom for several years before returning to work for the Middletown City School District. Mrs. Long was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Middletown and then Monroe Methodist Church where she served on the Missions Committee. A calligrapher and artist, Kay loved spending time at Arts in Middletown where she took drawing classes. She was an avid reader and volunteered at the Monroe Lending Library. She was also a member of the PEO. To know Kay was to know true kindness. She dearly cherished family and friends and was quick to offer comfort to those in need. She was an eternal optimist that found beauty and goodness in the most difficult times. Having Kay as a friend meant she changed your life for the better. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staffs of Good Samaritan Heart Hospital in Dayton and Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Monroe Methodist Church, 206 East Ave., Monroe, Ohio 45050. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Joel Harbarger officiating. Entombment will be at Woodside Cemetery Mausoleum, Middletown, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe Lending Library, 6 East Avenue, Monroe, Ohio 45050. Arrangements by Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown.
