Kathy Griggs, 74, of Concordia, died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 11, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Concordia, with Rev. Paul Mehl officiating. Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m., Monday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Concordia. Cremation will take place after the funeral service and inurnment will be at a later date in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Elementary School Playground Equipment and an online guestbook is available at www.campbell-lewis.com She was born April 18, 1942, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Carl Vernon Schmitz and Marcella Stein Schmitz. She was raised in the St. Louis area where she attended St. Augustus Catholic School and Beaumont High School. On December 24, 1960, she married Joe Griggs who survives of the home. Kathy worked as a waitress, prep cook and a book binder, in addition to being a homemaker for her family. Kathy and Joe moved to Concordia in 1984 where they were members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was a member of the braille workers and Ladies Aid #1, as well as a member of Concordia Garden Club and Forum Club. Kathy loved kids and volunteered with Food For Kids. In addition to her husband, Joe; she is survived by four children, Tina (Steve) Bredehoeft, of Concordia; Jeffrey (Tammie) Griggs, of Sweet Springs; Kimberly (Gregory) Eason, of Bowling Green; and Andrew Griggs, of Marshall; 59 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ellen Sadler, of Granite City, Ill.; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Joseph Jr., and Jerome Griggs; one grandson, Michael Lee Griggs; and one brother, Vernon Schmitz.
