Kathryn Ann STEVENS
STEVENS, Kathryn Ann Kathryn Ann Stevens, 68, of Brunswick, Maine passed away on June 9, 2016, after a two-year battle with cancer. She was born on February 24, 1948 in Fredericksburg, Texas to Marguerite and Homer Lee Stevens. She grew up on a ranch near Harper, Texas and graduated from Harper High School. She then moved to Austin and studied botany at the University of Texas. In 1969, she married her first husband, Bill Glass, with whom she was married until 1974. In 1977, she married Greg Arehart. They have two sons, Jonathan and Aaron Arehart. She worked as the office manager for the Perlmutter & Reagan law firm and then did accounting and bookkeeping at The Natural Gardener. In 2003 she moved to Maine to be with her partner, Sandy Chipman, whom she married in 2013. Together they constructed a two-story home with a large organic garden. She worked at Warren Construction Group and was very involved with the Tom Settlemire Community Garden in Brunswick, Maine. From childhood she was a tirelessly curious and independent thinker. She was an avid reader of all genres who constantly had books checked out from the library and encouraged her sons to do the same. She loved gardening, hiking, her many friendships, and walking her dog Nell. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Martha Stevens. She is survived by her spouse, Sandy Chipman; her son Aaron Arehart and his girlfriend Annie Quach of Portland, Oregon; her son Jonathan Arehart of Austin, Texas; her ex-husband, Greg Arehart of Austin; her ex-husband Bill Glass; and a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews. A funeral service was held in Brunswick, Maine on June 16, 2016. A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, October 29th, 2016 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, in Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Harper Library or the Friends of Big Bend Conservancy.
