Kathleen Van Gieson Simpsonville Kathleen Van Gieson, 64, of Simpsonville, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, from Glioblastoma that was discovered on March 3, 2016. Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Harry and Frances Hudson Van Gieson. Kathy was a 1973 Graduate of Clemson University with a BA in Sociology and a minor in English Literature. Her career was in Industrial Human Resources, spending the last 16 years with Roy Metal Finishing. She founded the Carolina Singles Hiking and Adventure Club and the Carolina Dining and Adventure Club. Kathy's lifelong motto was "Living well is the best revenge." Her contagious laugh and sweet heart endeared her to all who knew her. She loved her cats and the Beatles. Survivors include a sister, Barbara Van Gieson; two brothers, David Van Gieson (Linda) and Mike Van Gieson (Dana); a sister-in-law, Tammy Van Gieson; sister cousins, Linda West Dilleshaw, Judy West Snipes and Libby Evans Cope; nieces and nephews, Zach Van Gieson (Rachel), Jake Van Gieson (Jennifer), Katie Harrison (Chris), Megan Van Gieson and Sam Van Gieson; great nieces and nephews, Luke Van Gieson, Savannah Van Gieson, Nathan Van Gieson, Charlotte Van Gieson, and Penelope Harrison; and step great niece, Morgan Robinette. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, October 14, 2016, at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home Downtown, with visitation to follow until Noon.
