Katharina Kay Murphy LUBBOCK-Katharina Kay Murphy, 79, of Lubbock died Oct. 11, 2016, with three generations of family by her side. She was born Sept. 17, 1937, in Erlangen, Germany, to Johann and Amalia Shultheis. After growing up in Germany and surviving bombings from allied forces, Kay attended a business school for marketing, married an American G.I., Richard Murphy, and had two children. As an Army wife, she travelled to several places in the world and ultimately settled in Lubbock. Here Kay successfully managed Woman's World for many years. She loved family, holidays, Pinochle, bowling, cooking, and game nights. She was a classy, strong, beautiful, intelligent, witty, and committed woman who will be deeply missed. Katharina is survived by her husband of 59 years, Richard Murphy; her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Rich Miller of Shippensburg, PA; her son, Marc Murphy of Houston; her granddaughter, Misty Goodman and husband Gary of Midland; and great-grandchildren, Justus, Bella, Pierce, and Gianna. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Johann and Amalia; and brothers, Ernst and Horst. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016, at Combest Family Funeral Homes with the family receiving friends 4 to 6 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, in Resthaven Memorial Park.
