Karl A. PENNY
PENNY, Karl A. Karl A. Penny passed away in Arizona on March 28, 2017, due to a heart attack. He was born in England to Lionel Penny and Elfriede Mengazzi Penny on March 19, 1949. Karl and his mother moved to Germany, and later immigrated to Edmonton, Alberta, with his stepfather, Herbert Pohl. Karl completed his education at the University of Alberta and began his career with Child Welfare Services. He moved on to Allstate Insurance Company, where he held various managerial positions. In 1987 he moved to San Jose CA and married Laura Roller. Karl retired from the insurance industry and moved his family to Spokane in 2001. There he began a second career in patient transport at Sacred Heart Hospital, from which he retired in 2014. Karl loved playing ice hockey in his youth. He was a huge Edmonton Oilers fan as well as the San Jose Sharks (when they weren't playing Edmonton). He also was an avid golfer. Karl enjoyed a good project and was always willing to help a friend with his handyman skills, including fence repairs, basement build-outs, and as an electrical sidekick. Karl was just beginning to enjoy the RV and snowbird lifestyle in Arizona and made many wonderful new friends along the way. Karl was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Laura, daughter Nicole Gray (Dean), son Matthew Penny, and many extended family. The family requests that donations be made to SpokAnimal in lieu of flowers. Karl touched so many lives and will be missed by everyone who knew him.
