In memory of
Karen Marie Walraven
Karen Walraven Karen Marie (Milligan) Walraven was born December 11, 1958. Karen passed away peacefully on April 6, 2017, with her family by her side, at the home of her parents in Atascadero, Calif. Karen is survived by her parents Wallace and Mary Milligan; her brothers Ed (Jayne) Milligan and Mike (Adriana) Milligan; and her sister Julie (John) Ryan. Karen is also survived by her children Cynder Parkhurst, Stephany (Tim) Branson, Jesse Walraven and Josh Walraven; 8 grandchildren; and her faithful dog LuLu, who never left her side. Karen was a 16 year lung transplant survivor. Ironically, she passed away 1 day short of her 16 year transplant anniversary date. April 7th was known as "Happy Lung Day." We are forever thankful to the family who donated their loved one's lung to our loved one. We think of them in our grief and are eternally grateful for that gift of 16 years. Karen had been in the care of Central Coast Hospice for the last 2 1/2 years and we cannot thank the entire staff enough for their help and support! A special thank you to Michele Borges, who by the grace of God, was with us when Karen passed, Dr. Bourne for his endless effort to keep her comfortable, Naomi Simpson, Diane Shabazian, Rachelle Goodwin (Karen's other nurse) and Janet Rhoades for their caring support to Karen and her family. To everyone at HospiceWE THANK YOU!! In Karen's healthy years, she loved motorcycle riding, going to the lake, inner tubing down the river, camping and playing a good game of pool. And of course anything to do with her kids and friends. Later, as her health failed her, she took every set back in stride and adapted to what she could do. Her motto "Never give up" she had a poster on her fridge with that saying, and she lived it. At her request no services will be held at this time. Karen loved animals and even on her very modest income would donate to Woods Animal Shelter, feel free to donate in her name. Sign her guestbook at sanluisobispo.com/obituaries ... Show More
