Julianna Peskus Liana Julianna Peskus Liana, singer, passed into the arms of the Lord on Saturday, March 11, 2017. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the funeral from the August F. Schmidt Memorial Funeral Home, 139 Westfield Ave., Elizabeth on Sat. March 18 at 9AM. Funeral Mass in St. Peter & St. Pauls RC Church, Elizabeth at 10AM. Entombment St. Gertrude Cemetery. Friends may call Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Born and raised in Elizabeth NJ, she was an active member and soloist of Sts. Peter & Paul Lithuanian Catholic Church. Julianna attended St. Francis Academy Boarding School in Pittsburgh, and the Manhattan School of Music. An accomplished Mezzo Soprano, Julianna performed at the Copacabana with Tito Puente, the Latin Quarter, Webster Hall, Carnegie Hall, the Chicago Lyric Opera, and the Garden State Arts Center. She found and shared great joy raising her voice in praise as a soloist at Sts. Peter & Paul Church, where she succeeded her mother for many years, and her daughter Gina continued the tradition for many years after that. Julianna was proud of her Lithuanian heritage, served as the Chairperson of the Mobilization Committee of Americans for an Independent Lithuania, lobbying in Washington D.C. against the occupation of Lithuania by the Soviet Union. She also served on the board of New Jerseyans for Baltic Freedom. A true matriarch, Julianna is predeceased by her husband Gene and her brother Albert Paul Peskus, and is survived by her beloved daughter Gina Maria Frio, her son-in-law Don Anthony Frio and her Grandpup Little Stevie Wonderdog Frio.
