In memory of
Judith "Judy" (Holdsworth) Scott
Judith Holdsworth Scott, 74, of Mint Hill, NC, surrounded by her loving family, left her residence on this earth for her heavenly home on Saturday, October 15, 2016. Judy was born in Lancaster, PA, the daughter of Col. Edward Hanson Holdsworth and Martha Ringer Holdsworth. Her father was a career army officer so she proudly called herself an "Army Brat", attending 13 schools over her 12 year high school career. While challenging, she was quite proud of her travels around the world and the fascinating stories she could share about her overseas experiences. One of her favorite and most interesting stories was about her time in Okinawa shortly after WWII. She stayed in touch with her Orleans France High School classmates through the years, often attending reunions. Judy was an Honor Graduate of Radford University with a degree in history. Through her suitemates in college, who were former classmates of Mr. Billy "Boo" Scott, she started dating him and they were married on August 15, 1964. They moved to Charlotte in 1967 and ultimately Mint Hill in 2005. Judy taught in the public school system for 24 years where she started teaching History. Later, she attended Queens University in Charlotte and became certified as a Media Specialist. In 1995, she was recipient of the Gertrude Coward Award as the Top Media Specialist in the CMS School System. She especially enjoyed getting kids hooked on reading through her book talks. Judy loved to travel with her husband and spend time reading to her grandchildren. Most of all, Judy loved time spent with family and friends and she will be dearly missed. She is survived by her husband, Billy, of Mint Hill; two sons: Mike Scott of Matthews, NC, and Andy Scott (wife Ann) of Charlotte; five grandchildren: Hunter, Madison, Sarah, Garrett and Josh; three sisters: Kathy Sheeley, Linda (husband Dale) Hall, and Lee Ann Holdsworth; and her aunt, Charlotte Davis. Judy is further survived by loving nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Judy's family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for them. The family will gather to celebrate the life, love and blessing of Judy on Monday, October 17, at the funeral home, 4715 Margaret Wallace Road, Matthews, NC 28105. The gathering will take place from 4 pm to 6 pm. Interment is being scheduled for a later date at Arlington and will be announced when finalized. There she will join the final place of earthly rest for her parents as well as her brother-in-law, Col. Richard Scott, whose graveside services will be held there at 11 am on November 16, 2016. In honor of Judy, memorial contributions in her name would be appreciated to her favorite charity, Doctors without Borders at http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org .
