Funeral services for J.T. Frisby, 90, of Lufkin, will be held Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin with Brother Van Johnson officiating. Private Interment will be at the Concord Cemetery near Zavalla, Texas. Mr. Frisby was born January 27, 1926 in Sabine County, in the "Scrappin Valley" Community, and moved to Houston at an early age. He was the son of the late Abron Frisby and Sadie Williams Frisby, and went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 17, 2016 in Lufkin. J.T. served his country in the Navy during WWII, in the Pacific Theater, aboard the "USS Olmsted ADA", which transported attack personal. After leaving the Navy, he married Maudine on December 2, 1950. On their first date, they listened to the song, "Last Date", which holds a special spot in their hearts. After getting married, he began his career of 42 years with Hughes Tool Company in Houston, Texas. At age 21, J.T. became a Master Mason and age 22 a Shriner and is currently a member of Lufkin Lodge #669. Upon his retirement in 1986, they relocated to Lufkin. He was an active member of the Herty Baptist Church. J.T. loved being outdoors and enjoyed many days, of fishing, hunting, and sharing his garden with his friends. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 65 years, Maudine Frisby of Lufkin; Other survivors include his grandsons, Wayne Barry of Lufkin, and Chad Barry of Buna; granddaughter, Arian Barry of Lufkin; great granddaughters, Cheyenne Barry of Lufkin, and Autumn Barry of Huffman; great grandsons, Trey Barry, Justin Barry, and Tyler Herrera, all of Lufkin; brother and sister-in-law, Noil Q. and Mary Dee Frisby of Sealy; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Floyd and Theta Pouland of Longview, Texas; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sybil and Wondale Harvey of Broaddus; nephew, Aaron Frisby of Brazoria; nieces, Melissa Frisby of Austin, Julia Hall of Phoenix, AZ, and Linda Jackson of Crosby; special friend, Mandy McDonald of Cleveland; along with a host of friends. J.T. was proceeded in death by his parents, Abron and Sadie Frisby; his daughter, Marjorie "Margie" Barry in 2015; son, James Timothy "Tim" in 2005; son-in-law, Ken Barry in 1985; brother, Clyde Frisby; and niece, Rachel Brigle. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Shafer Funeral Home in Lufkin. Memorials may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank, Lufkin, Texas, 75904.
