Joyce M. Jones Summit mother and grandmother, had journalism career with Star-Ledger, NY Times, Summit Herald, 87 Joyce M. Jones, 87, of Summit, N.J., passed away on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017. To send the family condolences please visit ippolitofuneralhomes.com . Born in Kearny, N.J., Ms. Jones lived in Sea Girt, N.J., and East Orange, N.J., prior to moving to Summit many years. A talented writer and journalist, Ms. Jones began her career at WNBC in New York City and was the personal secretary to Oscar nominee, Emmy- and Tony Award-winning actor, director, writer and producer, Robert Montgomery. While raising her children, Ms. Jones continued to move forward in her career, writing and creating handcrafted holiday cards, which she sold at Bergdorf Goodman for years. In addition, she worked as a public relations specialist, a position she had created for the Summit school system. After retiring from the school system, she returned to her first passion, writing and journalism, and became a feature writer for several town newspapers, including the Independent Press, Seen and Summit Herald, where she was also named editor. She then worked for the Star-Ledger newspaper as a feature writer and eventually wrote for the New York Times, where she worked for many years. She graduated from Kearny High School and the College of New Rochelle. She was the loving mother of Elizabeth Mondelli and Jane Fitz; cherished grandmother of Ashley, Shannon, Lindsey, Caroline, Joseph and Joyce and dear sister of the late Arlyn McKenna.
