In memory of
Josephine Adams
Adams, Josephine A. Age 80; of Berkley, MI; passed away on April 12, 2017, 6 months after being diagnosed with cancer. She died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family. The daughter of Joseph and Katherine Chalk, Polish immigrants, the amazing and delightful “Josie” was born Josephine Anne Chalk in Detroit, Michigan on June 9, 1936 into a family of 10 children. She attended St. Hedwig Catholic High School and Detroit Nursing College and became a Registered Nurse. After she married Robert J. Adams in 1961, Josie suspended her career to help raise her 5 adoring children. When her youngest child entered high school, Josie enthusiastically returned to practice nursing until her retirement in 2003. Over the years, Josie skillfully and gently ministered nursing care to countless patients, including friends, children, grandchildren, and even a few family pets. Among Josie’s many talents and accomplishments was her love of gardening, golfing and bowling, traveling the world, discovering and enjoying Detroit-area treasures and events, cooking wonderful meals, and spending time with Bob and their large family - both at their home in Berkley and their cottage in Clare County, MI. Her fantastic flower and vegetable garden has been a neighborhood landmark for many years. She practiced her strong Catholic faith at the National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica Catholic Church in Royal Oak, MI. Josie was living proof of God’s glory, and her family prays that her faith will be rewarded with a smooth and prompt journey into heaven. Although Josie will be dearly missed by all her knew her, she will always be happily remembered for her bright and witty personality, which she kept until the end. Josie is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Robert; her 5 children: Mark (Denise) of Royal Oak, MI, Elaine Kelley (Frank) of Royal Oak, MI, Tom (Anne) of Manchester, MI, Paul (Heather) of Royal Oak, MI, and Carl (Carrie) of London, Ontario; her 9 grandchildren: Luke, Clare, Erica, Katherine, Grace, Martha, Abigail, Elizabeth and Emily; her sister Mary (Chalk) O’Brien and her brother Joseph Chalk. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Joan (Chalk) Sample, baby granddaughter Avery Adams and 6 of her siblings. Josephine’s funeral is planned for Tuesday, April 18, 2017; Instate 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass 10:00 a.m., at National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica Catholic Church, 2100 Twelve Mile Rd., Royal Oak, MI 48073.
