Honorable Joseph A. Suozzi
SUOZZI - Hon. Joseph A. of Glen Cove died peacefully at his home on October 16 at the age of 95. Born in Ruvo del Monte, Italy, Judge Suozzi immigrated to the U.S. in 1925. Upon graduating from college, he entered military service with the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters. After graduating from Harvard Law School, Judge Suozzi entered the practice of law in Glen Cove and subsequently was elected to the bench of the City Court of Glen Cove in 1949 and re-elected in 1953. He served as Mayor of Glen Cove from 1956 until 1960. In 1961, he was elected to a 14-year term as Justice of the Supreme Court of the State of New York, County of Nassau, and was re-elected in 1974 for another term with bipartisan support. In 1976, then Governor Hugh Carey appointed him Associate Justice of the Appellate Division, Second Department. In 1980, he left the bench and resumed the practice of law as a senior partner at Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein, P.C. Judge Suozzi was the beloved husband of 63 years of Marguerite Suozzi, the two having wed on Valentine's Day in 1953. Loving father of Rosemary Mancini Lloyd, Dr. William Suozzi, Christopher Suozzi, Thomas R. Suozzi, and the late Joseph M. Suozzi. Devoted grandfather of 14 and great-grandfather of four. Family and friends may visit the McLaughlin Kramer Megiel Funeral Home, 220 Glen St., Glen Cove, Tuesday 7-9 PM or Wednesday 2- 5 PM and 7-9 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, 235 Glen St., Glen Cove, on Thursday at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable donations be made to Catholic Charities of Rockville Centre, Momma's House, or New Ground.
