Rowand, Joseph G. Joseph G. Rowand, 84, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2016. A memorial celebrating Joseph's life will be held at 9:30 am, Friday, October 21st at Shadow Mountain Mortuary located at 2350 E. Greenway Rd., Phoenix. A burial with Military Honors will be at 12:30 pm at the National Cemetery located at 23029 N Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix. Joseph G. Rowand was born in Fairmont, West Virginia on July 1, 1932, where he attended grade school, middle school and graduated high school in 1951. His first job was working for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O), where his love for trains began. In 1953, Joseph was drafted into the Army where he was stationed in Germany as a corporal. He served our country for nearly 2 years where he received 3 citations: The National Defense Service Medal, the Army Occupational Medal (Germany) and Good Conduct. Joseph was honorably discharged in 1954. He moved to Phoenix in 1955. Joseph began working for a large dairy in Phoenix loading trucks with milk for delivery for 10 years. Joseph's final vocation was working as a groundskeeper for Phoenix Union High School District at East High School. Joseph worked with the school district for 30 years and retired in 1995. Joseph is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and their spouses. He is survived by his wife Julie Ann Rowand, her children, their spouses along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joe was fondly referred to as "Poppy" by his grandchildren. Scott Leininger - his children: Adrienne Donovan (Ken), Kenneth and Tiffany Donovan. Technical Sergeant Benjamin S. Leininger (Sameigh), twins: Lillian and Olivia Leininger. Tami Titus (Tom) - their children: Brittney Clark (Jeremy) - their children: Tristan, twins Drayden and Caisey and Kolten Clark. Jordan Titus and Amanda Titus. June Schellenberg (Fritz), Dawn Brechtel (Brad) - their child: Eric Brechtel. Also Joe's younger sister Cecelia (Tom), and his cousin Zona Rowand Lawrence (Phoenix).
