Joseph Lipke Marine in Vietnam War awarded Purple Heart, 72 Joseph Lipke, 72, a lifelong resident of Elizabeth, N.J., passed away on Jan. 12, 2017. Viewing will be held on Sunday, Jan. 15, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home, 582 Springfield Ave., Westfield, N.J. ( higginsandbonner.com ). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Jan. 16, at 10 a.m. at St. Genevieve's RC Church in Elizabeth. Joseph was a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Roselle Park, Elizabeth, and Hillside. He worked for 33 years, retiring in 2000. He was a Marine Corps veteran of Vietnam, attaining the rank of sergeant and was awarded The Purple Heart. He was a member of The Military Order of the Purple Heart, The Marine Corps League and American Legion Post No. 328 in Clark, N.J., as well as the 25-Year-Club of The National Association of Letter Carriers. Joseph is survived by his wife, Susan (Peitz) Lipke; his daughter, Connie A. Novoa and her husband, Roger; his sons, Todd J. Lipke and Daniel J. Lipke and his wife, Sheri; his grandchildren, Joey, Justin, Jason, Drew, Addison, Daniel and Madison; his sisters, Evelyn Nardone, Diane Keane and Patricia Thaler, and his brothers, Arthur, James, and Leonard.
