Joseph Labuta
Joseph F. Labuta, 82, of Raritan Township, N.J., passed away on Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township, N.J. He was born on Oct. 31, 1934, in Jersey City, N.J. He resided in Raritan Township for the past eight years, moving from High Bridge, N.J., and Lebanon Twp., N.J., where he resided for most of his life. He was the son of the late Joseph E. and Frances Skacil Labuta. He was the husband of Florence C. McDonough Labuta, celebrating 52 years of marriage. Joseph and Florence were married at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church in Jersey City, N.J. Joseph was a US Navy veteran, serving as a RM2 during the Korean War from 1954 to 1962 on the submarine USS Trumpetfish (SS-425). After his military service, Joseph earned his bachelor's of science degree in electrical engineering from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, N.J. Joseph worked for Western Electric in Newark, N.J., where he was involved with training the North East Region. He later went on to work for Fimbel Door Manufacturing in Whitehouse, N.J. Upon his retirement in June of 2004, he worked part-time for Spruce Run Aluminum in Lebanon, N.J. Memberships include St. Joseph's Catholic Church in High Bridge, N.J. He was a 4th degree knight with Knights of Columbus Council No. 10627 and PJPII Assembly 3293. Joseph was an Eagle Scout and a past Boy Scout troop leader. He was also involved in Girl Scouts. Survivors, in addition to his loving wife, include one son, Brian Labuta and his wife, Susan, of High Bridge, N.J.; two daughters; Karen Shea and her husband, Kevin, of Pittstown, N.J., and Christine Labuta of Flemington, N.J.; and one grandson, Jack Shea. Calling hours will be Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Members of Joe's 4th Degree Assembly will deliver a proclamation and rosary decade at 7:30 p.m. All at Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home, 26 Main Street, Lebanon, N.J. Funeral Mass will be Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 59 Main St., High Bridge, N.J. Interment will be private.
