Jose Manuel Diaz Sr, of Pembroke Pines passed away in his family's loving arms on 10/11/2016 at the age of 83. Jose is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years Dulce Lina Diaz; his children Jose Manuel Diaz, Jr, Maria Lina Diaz MD (Thomas Bryson Owen), his grandson Jose Manuel Diaz the Fourth, his sister Carmen Vilorio and his nephew Jose Bacallao Miguel. Jose was born in Cuba on August 4, 1933. He immigrated to the United States in his early twenties. He married his childhood sweetheart, Dulce Lina, in 1956. He had two children and a grandson who adored him and in turn were adored by him. He served in the United States Army from 1957-1959 earning medals for Good Conduct and for Marksmanship (Rifle). He was honorably discharged upon completion of his service. Jose's education at the University of Havana School of Medicine was cut short by the Cuban Revolution. A devoted family man, Jose worked tirelessly to provide for his family. His most notable employments were Manager of Beverage Services for Conventions at the Contemporary Hotel at Disney World in Orlando Florida and Purchasing Agent for Angler Boat Company in Medley, Florida from where he retired. Affectionately known as "Papa", Jose volunteered at Coconut Palm Elementary School. He was beloved by children and staff for his sweet soul and gentle sense of humor. He will be remembered for his grace, courage and loving heart. Funeral Service was scheduled for 10/12/2016 at Caballero Funeral Home at 8200 SW 40th Street, Miami Florida. Interment on 10/13/2016 at 10:30 AM at Woodlawn Park Cemetery West 14001 NW 178th Street, Hialeah, Florida. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Cleveland Clinic Florida's nephrology education program. Checks should be made out to Cleveland Clinic Florida with "In memory of Jose Manuel Diaz" in the memo line and mailed to Cleveland Clinic Florida's Philanthropy Department at 2950 Cleveland Clinic Blvd., Weston, FL 33331.
