Jose ""Max"" Candelaria, 86, of Bloomfield, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017. He was born June 5, 1930, to Jose and Anistasita Velasquez Candelaria in Rosa, N.M. where he grew up. He attended school until the 8th grade where he then went to work for his parents and siblings. He entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany at the end of the Korean Conflict. Upon return, Jose worked for El Paso Natural Gas for thirty-one years from Carracas to Ojito. In his free time, Joe enjoyed farming and raised a beautiful garden while sharing produce with friends and family. He was not a man of many words, but of very kind deeds. Jose was a beloved father, grandfather and mentor to many and will be greatly missed. Jose was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Josephine (LaLa) Gutierrez, Lupe Marquez; brothers, Jose Demetrio (Demis) and Carlos Candelaria. He is survived by his sons, Rudy (Rhonda), and Larry (Deanna) Candelaria; sister, Mary Jane Griego; brothers, Rudy, Donald and Steve Candelaria; grandchildren, Laci, Colter, Cali, Donnie, Melissa, Nicholes and Lindsay. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 307 N. Church St. in Bloomfield. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father James Walker as celebrant. Interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6917 E. Main, Farmington with Military Honors by VFW Post 2182. Jose's care is entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute St. in Farmington, 505-325-8688.
