John L. Worthington
John L. Worthington, age 94, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, veteran, passed peacefully in his sleep on October 18, 2016. Jack was born in Cleveland and attended East Technical High School, graduating in 1940. After high school, Jack worked in the aircraft industry at TRW building engines for the war effort, then enlisted in the U.S. Army, ultimately serving in the Pacific Theatre. He was a retiree of the U.S. Postal Service and National City Bank. A lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians, Jack remembered seeing Babe Ruth play at League Park when he was a boy. He also recalled watching Bob Feller pitch in a sandlot game at Gordon Park when Bob was first brought to Cleveland before he signed his MLB contract. Jack enjoyed the 1948 World Championship and he took great pleasure in the recent success of the Tribe. Jack is survived by a large and loving family. He is the beloved father of John P. (Judy), Michael (Sue), Joan Lariccia (Fred), Terri (Gary Wollschleger), Bill, Mary (Tom Hinders) and Brian (Molly). He is the grandfather of Matthew, Lauren Smith (Justin) and Mickey, Kristian (Stacey) and Daniel (Sarah) Lariccia, Molly Birt (Ryan), Andrew (Jamie), Abigail and Alex (Emily Delimpo) Wollschleger; Claire Worthington Mills (Daniel), Maggie, Liam, and Jack. He is the great grandfather of Emily, Natalie, Dominic, Stella, Paul, Nicholas and Finn. Jack was pre-deceased by the love of his life, Therese Worthington (Shannon) who passed in 2007. Jack and Therese were married in 1948 and enjoyed 59 years of loving marriage. Son of the late Earl and Martha Worthington; brother of the late Anne (Slim) Molnar, Margaret Mary (Tom) Davey and Jean (Bill) Dolan. Jack, the self-proclaimed "Checkers Champion of the World," had a gentle humor and deep love for his family and friends that will be greatly missed by all. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday Oct. 22 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 29850 Euclid Ave. (Wickliffe). Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends at Brickman Bros.
