John "Jay" Tarwater
John (Jay) Tarwater, was born in Saint Jo, Texas on October 22, 1921 to John & Maude Tarwater. He married Regina Morgan in 1952. To this union was born two sons, Jay Kyle and Douglas Morgan. John departed this life on October 9, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He attended Ottawa College. He was a Christian and a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church at Lake Bonham. He served his country in the United States Navy. He was a pilot from 1942 – 1949. He served on the USS Lexington and the USS Yorktown. During his time he received many distinguished awards including two Flying Crosses, four Air Medals, a WWII Victory Medal, two Presidential Citations, an American Area Medal and three Commendation Ribbons. He was a Silver Haired Legislator and served as president of the Friends of the Bonham Senior Center. He is survived by his son; Douglas Tarwater of Bonham, TX, two grandchildren; Marshall Tarwater and Michael Tarwater, both of Baton Rouge, LA, other relatives and many friends, He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalind Tarwater in 2012, his parents; John & Maude Tarwater and his son; Jay Kyle Tarwater. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Friends of the Bonham Senior Center and Bonham VFW< Post 4852. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016, 1 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church, Lake Bonham. Arrangements are under the direction of American Funeral Service, Denison, TX.
