John Abram Smith
John Abram Smith passed away September 6, 2016 in San Francisco, California. He was killed in a kayaking accident on the San Francisco Bay. He was 43 years old. John "Abe" was born December 29, 1972 at the Olde Settlers Lodge in Nederland, Colorado to his parents, Deborah Zarich (Mike) of Longmont and Richard Smith (Delisa) of Oregon. He is survived by his son, Asa, of Japan, sisters, Willow, Kalyca and Mina Zarich of Longmont, brother Michael Joseph (Susan) of Houston, Texas and grandmother, Jean Langer of Longmont. He was pre-deceased by his son Chance and his brother Jonas. John "Abe" graduated from Metro State College in Denver with an Engineering Degree in systems analysis. He specialized in I.T., working in many companies, hospitals and doctors providing I.T. services and networking. He loved nature and the outdoors. He fished professionally in Oregon as a young adult. Skiing, camping, hiking and water sports were his favorite things to do. John "Abe" excelled at martial arts. John "Abe" was a believer in and volunteered countless hours to non-profits that serve the homeless and other underserved populations, both in Colorado and California. He had a kind heart and would help anyone who was in need. Please join the family for a memorial service on Saturday, October 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pacific Events Center, 1330 Main Street, Longmont, CO. Donations may be made to benefit John's son Asa.
