John Antonio Saporito, 90, of Fairmont passed away on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Tygart Center at Fairmont.
He was born at Farmington on April 27, 1926 a son of the late Andrea Saporito and Josephine (LaMalfa) Saporito.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years in January 2017. The couple were married on November 5, 1949.
John served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a Life member of the VFW Post 7048. He worked for Consolidation Coal Company following 43 years of service at Consol #9, Loveridge, Robinson Run, and retiring from Oakdale in 1981. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.
He was a member of the H & H Chapel, Meadowdale United Methodist Church. He belonged to the West Virginia Travelers Club, the Sugar Grove Hunting Club and the Appalachian Rangers Muzzleloaders. He was a hunter, fisherman, wood worker and gardener.
John was a friend to everyone, always helping and giving to others. He loved most his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Terry W. Saporito and his wife Jill of Fairmont and a daughter-in law, Doris Saporito also of Fairmont; his grandchildren and their spouses, John R. and Lauren Saporito, Tricia and Harold Boyles, Karen Saporito and Sarah Saporito; his great grandchildren, Madison Kenny, Kaylee Kenny, Zoe Boyles, Courtney Saporito and Justin Hardesty and two great great grandchildren, Cannon and Addie.
Also surviving is a brother-in-law, Dave Shreve of Fairmont and a sister-in-law, Carmella Saporito of Fairmont; and brother-in-law, Orven "Sonny" Powell and his wife Pam, of Ohio.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son Gary Saporito and brothers and sisters, Joseph "Peppy" Saporito, Christina Henderson, Nancy Bland, Sonta Mercer, Frank Saporito, Sam Saporito and Rose Shreve.
Friends and family will be received at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont on Sunday from 1pm to 4pm and on Monday 11am to 1pm. The funeral service will be at 1pm on Monday, April 24, 2017 at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens with full military rites conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.
