John G. Polivka
John G. Polivka February 12, 1925 ~ October 10, 2016 Born February 12, 1925 in Pleasant Mt., PA to Anna and Andrew Polivka. He was the youngest of three children. Known as "Jay," he lived in Pleasant Mt. until joining the Air Force in 1945. As a member of the 34th bomb group, 7th squadron, he was a Ball Gunner on a B-17. After the military, he became a member of KDR fraternity while attending Lafayette University in Easton, PA. Jay graduated from Lafayette University and became a buyer for Laubach's Department Stores. In 1952, he married Irene Scarpino and they moved to Clifton, NJ. As a buyer, he traveled the country working for Federated Electronics, Fedway, Northern Commercial and Nordstrom. He became the Nordstrom Keni Store Manager in 1975 and retired in 1989 as the Regional Operations Manager for Nordstrom in Alaska. He and Irene moved back to Kirkland in 2006 to be closer to their family. Jay loved to golf, fish and give back to his community. He looked forward to the King Salmon returning to Ship's Creek in the summer. Jay was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as President of the Anchorage Lion's Club. He also was a member American Legion, Real Alaskans and Pioneers while living in Alaska. Jay is survived by his children, Diane Magruder and John Polivka, Jr, grandchildren, Justin Magruder, Erik Magruder, Peter Polivka, and David Polivka,. He adored his great-granddaughters, Ava Grace and Madisyn Leigh Magruder. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Thursday, October 20th at 10:00 AM at St. John Vianney Church, 12600 84th Ave NE, Kirkland, WA 98034. Donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
