In memory of
John "Jack" Onks
John L. "Jack" Onks, age 87, began his journey to his eternal home in heaven on April 18, 2017 while surrounded at his bedside by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his devoted and loving wife of 64 years, Jean Hudson Onks; his Step Mother, Vicie Wright Davis, his father William Hess Onks, his maternal mother Fannie Love Harris Onks, his sister Rosa Onks, his brother Luther H. Onks and his brother William H. "Tag" Onks. Born October 27, 1929 in Russell, Kentucky Jack spent most of his childhood in Princeton, West Virginia. In his King George high school years, Jack consistently excelled at basketball and baseball, graduating in the class of 1947. He made school history by scoring 67 points in a single basketball game and leading his team to its first ever appearance in the state playoffs. To date, Jack still holds the most points scored in a single game in the Fredericksburg, VA area. As a baseball player, he averaged over 20 points per game as a pitcher and first baseman for the baseball team. On September 6, 2014 Jack was inducted into the King George Sports Hall of Fame. After high school Jack served his country by joining the U.S.Army. He was deployed to Korea during that conflict and was honorably discharged upon his return home. Jack was well known locally for decades in the automotive business; starting as a car salesman in the mid-1950s working at Carl D. Silver's Car lot where he advanced to sales manager and stayed with the business for over 20 years. Jack then continued his management career at Nichols Automotive until the store closed. He then began working for CarQuest where he continued working until he retired. Jack is survived by his son Gary D. Onks (Sue), daughters Teena R. Ormiston (George) and Veta Onks Wholey (Jeff), his brother David H. "Chuck" Onks, his grandchildren Jennifer Onks Bresee, Elliott Raphael, Joshua Seay, Iris Onks Wheeler, Kaleb Seay and Aaron Onks and his six great grandchildren. Jack will be greatly missed by his family, friends and church family until they meet again in heaven for a wonderful and eternal reunion. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday April 22, 2017 at 12 P.M. at Stafford Crossing Community Church: 1420 Forbes Street, Fredericksburg, VA 22405. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions made in memory of Jack Onks may be sent to: Stafford Crossing Community Church, Building Fund, 1420 Forbes Street, Fredericksburg, VA 22405.
