RYE, N.H. - John (Jack) Cournoyer Neville, 82, of Rye, N.H. passed away at his home Thursday, October 13, 2016. Born in Manchester, he was the son of John and Dorothy Neville. Jack attended local schools and graduated from UNH class of 1956 as a member of Phi Mu Delta and the lacrosse team. He married Patricia Whalen and raised four children in Candia, where he volunteered as a fireman. Jack rose to the rank of Major in the Air Force Reserves, serving as a pilot for 22 years. After his retirement as an insurance adjuster, he volunteered at the Seacoast Science Center in Rye and as a UNH Marine Docent where he met and married Nancy Shay. Together they shared the love of the ocean, sailing the coasts of Maine and N.H. They traveled extensively and welcomed travelers to their home through the Seacoast Friendship Force. Jack's greatest joy in life was cooking and entertaining family and friends. Jack is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy; his sister, Karlene Wadleigh of Bedford; son and daughter in law, Mark and Judi Neville of Candia; daughters, Marianne N. Van Valkenburg of Fitzwilliam, and Jennifer Neville Chiesa and husband, Paul Chiesa of Candia. Jack was a proud grandfather of 21 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Patricia Whalen, a son James P. Neville, and son in-law William Van Valkenburg. Jack was never fond of long obituaries, pomp and circumstance and Hallmark cards. SERVICES: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 22, 2016, at 11 a.m. at St. Theresa Church, 815 Central Road in Rye, N.H.
