Rev. John C. Melin AGE: 88 • Berkeley Twsp., NJ The Rev. John C. Melin, 88, of Berkeley Twsp., NJ died on Tuesday January 10, 2017 at Arbors Care Center in Toms River, NJ. He was born in Galesburg, IL and in retirement lived in Toms River and Cliffwood before his recent move to Berkeley Twsp., NJ. He was a graduate of the University of Akron, Augustana Theological Seminary, Rock Island IL, and Princeton Theological Seminary. Ordained a Lutheran pastor in 1953, Pastor Melin faithfully served parishes in Webster, MA, Greensburg, PA, and Washington, Edison, and Ridgefield, all in NJ. In retirement, he served as Associate Pastor at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Toms River and filled in as a supply pastor at churches throughout the state until this past autumn. The Rev. John Melin is predeceased by his parents The Rev. Clarence and Elvera Melin and his wife Carolyn Melin. Surviving is his wife Yvonne Melin; his sons, John Melin and his wife Gladys and Charles Melin and his wife Melania; his sister Ruth Colson; his grandchildren Stephanie, Lauren, Eric and Andrew and his great grandchildren Jonah and Benjamin. Family will receive friends on Sunday January 15, 2017 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals 145 St. Catherine Blvd. Toms River, NJ. A viewing will take place on Monday January 16, 2017 at Faith Lutheran Church in Lavallette, NJ from 9am-10am with a funeral service to follow for 10am at the church. Burial will follow to George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ. Donations to the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago Scholarship Fund or Lutheran World Relief would be appreciated.
