John Harlan McCartney Sr., died February 11, 2017 at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, CO, with his family by his side. John was born January 19, 1934 in Denver, CO to Harold McCartney and Beatrice Hickman. He had three brothers: Les Hickman, Kirk McCartney and Paul McCartney and three sisters: Connie Webb, Cecelia Thorson and Deborah Hickman. John served his country in the Navy, retiring as Chief Petty Officer after 23 years. In 1993 John graduated from Colorado University with a bachelor's degree in Psychology. He then took his degree to continue to service his fellow veterans as their advocate for the American Legion for 25 years. John is survived by his wife Mary McCartney and all eight of his children; five sons John Jr, James, Gregg, Jason and Joel and three daughters; Dawn, Cheryl and Teresa along with 19 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 18 at the Howe Mortuary Chapel in Longmont. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Monday, February 20 also at the Howe Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow at 12:30 pm at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO. Share condolences at
