Lanuk, John Paul. John Paul Lanuk, 95 years old, passed away peacefully on Friday October 14th at Long Ridge Care Center, in Stamford, CT. Born September 29, 1921 in Port Chester, NY to the late Paul and Michalena Lanuk, he lived a rich life surrounded by a loving family and countless friends. He was predeceased by his adoring wife Irene Klinkowski Lanuk the love of his life whom he was married to for 51 years, two Brothers, Alexander and Michael Lanuk; two Sisters, Pauline Fyrncko & Elena Zagusta; two Brother in laws, Michael Fryncko and John Zagusta. He is survived by his son John W. Lanuk and daughter Sandra Bulakowski & her husband Robert; eight grand children, seven great grandchildren, Sister-in-Laws Patricia and Regina Lanuk as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was a World War II Veteran who fought in the Battle of the Buldge under General George S. Patton. After holding off a German Counter Offensive he was taken prisoner of war and then liberated in 1945. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. After the war he joined the family coal & oil business where he worked until his retirement in his seventies. He was also a Life Time Member the American Legion, Post 93. A Funeral Service of Orthodox Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10AM Thursday October 20, 2016 at Saint Mary's Holy Assumption Orthodox Church, 141 Den Road, Stamford, CT . Family and friends may call on Wednesday October 19, 2016 at the Thomas M. Gallagher Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT from 4PM – 7PM. A Panikhida (memorial service) will be held at 6PM at the Funeral Home. In lieu of Flower Donations may be made to St Mary's Holy Assumption Orthodox Church where he served as a former Church Council President and was a Gramata Recipient for his years of dedicated service.
