John Dwaine Ladd 1929 - 2017 John Ladd, born in Aitkin, Minnesota in 1929, hitch hiked his way to Oregon at the young age of only 15 in pursuit of job opportunities and a better life. John was a man said to have had more lives than a cat. There were multiple on the job events in his life that a normal, and I use that word loosely, person couldn't have survived - but John did. John was the embodiment of strength and had a work ethic matched by no other so it was only natural that he created a career in life wherein he worked for himself. John Ladd Logging Company made its start in 1951 and was owned and operated by him and his (now deceased) wife, Priscilla (Cline) Ladd, until the day he retired. He loved working in the woods and long after his retirement could still be seen reading the pages of Loggers World and The Little Salesman - commenting on equipment he could buy and jobs he could bid. He was a traditional man's man and was talented at many things. It's believed that John lived for as long as he did (87) due to sheer stubbornness alone and that he chose to pass away on February 13, 2017, so he could meet his wife in heaven in time for what would have been their 65th Valentine's Day together; and to be rejoined with also his son, David Ladd, and grandson, Jon Ladd ? whom all predeceased him. John is survived by his son, Ronald Ladd; daughter, Judy Williams; sister and brother-in-law, Jessie & Verne Cline; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry & Darlene Ladd; 4 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. John Ladd had a life well-lived. Through his strong will and determination he turned his goals in life into accomplishments and is an icon of the American dream. He passed those traits down to his children and grandchildren - all forever thankful that he did. John Ladd will be missed. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017, at 1:00 PM, at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove, Oregon followed by the interment at Comstock Cemetery.
