In memory of
JOHN F. KOCIS
92, a longtime Mentor resident, passed away October 18, 2016 at Normandy Senior Living Community in Rocky River. He was born July 16, 1924 in Newton Falls, OH. Mr. Kocis was a metallurgical engineer at TRW for over 30 years. A U.S. Navy veteran who served in WWII and the Korean War, he graduated from Youngstown State University with a Bachelor of Science degree. His hobbies included travel, amateur radio, golf, and following Cleveland sports. He relished his role as Papa to his five grandchildren, and took great joy in following their interests and activities. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church for nearly 60 years. John was an active Catholic, dedicated usher, and festival volunteer. Survivors are his beloved wife of 60 years, Louise Kocis; loving children, Peter (Elizabeth Handal) Kocis, Amy (Peter) Carroll and Mary Helen (Alan) Goodrich; and dearest grandchildren, Patrick, Colleen and Christopher Carroll and Molly and Hanna Goodrich; sister, Patricia Palenchar and brother-in-law William McMahon. He is preceded in death by his parents, John F. Kocis Sr. and Elizabeth Kocis; and sister, Marion Bobbey. Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 8560 Mentor Ave., Mentor. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Interment will be at Mentor Cemetery. In memory of John, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Helping Hands or a charity of one's choice.
