John P. Kennedy
John P. Kennedy, aged 80, of 22 Deerhaven Road, Lincoln MA passed away on Saturday, October 15th, surrounded by his family. Born in Pittsfield, MA, August 24, 1936 to Robert Kennedy and Katherine Maloney Kennedy, John was the youngest and last surviving of six brothers: Robert, James, Edward, William, and Lawrence Flip Kennedy. Growing up in western Massachusetts, John grew up loving the Yankees and was a dedicated fan throughout his life and often talked of going to games with his brothers. He graduated St. Josephs High School in 1954 where he was known as the good guy among his many friends. John was a veteran of the Korean War, having joined the army in 1954, at the age of 18 and completed two tours of duty. While in Korea he discovered his love of travel and cooking. He served as a chef in the army before returning home in 1959. He graduated from Burdett Colleges School of Business Administration in 1966. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Northeastern University in 1974 and his Masters at Bentley College in 1978. He was a CPA, specializing in taxation and a partner in the firm of Kennedy, Hentoff, and Patterson in Newton, MA. After his retirement he loved helping his daughter Christine, a teacher, organize her classroom at the Hosmer School every fall, helping his wife volunteer at St. Josephs Church, and was never without his faithful canine companion, Simon the Great, at his side. A true gentleman, he had the kindest of smiles, a twinkle in his eye, and was known for his quick wit and wonderful sense of Irish humor, lightheartedly joking even as his health failed. He was a caring man who would help anyone in need, even without being asked. A wise sage, freely giving his advice and talents to others, he was beloved by those lucky enough to know him. A constant adventurer, John had recently returned home from a trip to France. John is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Sylvia Pelosi Kennedy, his daughter, Christine Kennedy Fletcher of Cambridge, and her husband Brooke Fletcher, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins, all whom he loved dearly. Funeral will be held on Saturday, October 22nd at 8:45 am from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 am in St. Joseph Church, 142 Lincoln Road, Lincoln.
